71102 Trimmer Review and Tips for Smooth Operation: Check it Out.
Hopefully this will help you all out and anyone else who buys this trimmer. I bought one and had it constantly stall out on me only in the off choke setting. I replaced the fuel mixture, cleaned and oiled the air filter and fiddled with the idle screw to no avail. The warranty rep told me to exchange the unit because it was only one week old. The replacement also stalled out in the off choke setting (perhaps even a little worse than the first trimmer did). Something was not clicking so I decided (after a lot of research) to adjust the lo-speed needle (closest of the two special screws towards the engine) on the carburetor (counter clock wise 1/8th of a turn to richen the mixture ? did it without the special Single D carb tool). Doing that plus increasing the idle fixed it. This may help those who have trouble starting it as well (I did not) Since then it?s operated for 45 minutes for two sessions straight with no hesitation or stalling at any rpm. It is a very strong and capable!

Craftsman WeedWacker VERY poorly built

<span>I love Sears and I have loved Cratsman products, but if this represents the future of "Craftsman", I am done. I bought the WeedWacker 2 months ago and had used it maybe 6 times before it wouldn't start anymore. When it did run previously, I had the problem
the same reported by others - it would only run at full speed and idle, but nothing in between and it would try to kill if not given full throttle. Now it won't start at all and I have damaged my shoulder trying to get it started. I checked the spark and the gas and both were fine. Tried to call the 800 number for help and got no answer after 10 minutes on hold. Was loading the trimmer into the car to return it when I notice it was leaking fuel/oil. Looked closer and discovered that the cover where the optional cover attaches was loose. Turns out that it needs to be tight to have compression in the cylinder. Besides being a ridiculous design, the quality control inspectors never caught that the two screws had not been tightened (and one was missing entirely). I am keeping the trimmer for now because I don't have the receipt, but I have NEVER been so disappointed with Sears!</span>

Do not waste your money absolute Junk

This is junk, I have never had as much problem with any sears products as I had with this one. Do not but the protection plan either. I bought in Aug 2013 and it lasted until May 2014. It started running poorly so I took in because I had the protection plan that was supposed to cover everything. Well they can't fix it unless I pay $175 to fix. Are they nuts, I would just buy another. The items are designed to fail over time. You would think a few years not months! I've noticed that the past few years the lawn and garden stuff is junk. I have a lawn mower I got a few year ago and its junk. I will not be shopping any Sears brands anymore. Glad I paid off my Sear card!

Best Trimmer I've Ever Owned

I bought this after burning through a couple other major brand trimmers that would overheat and eventually fail to start. This little devil just keeps going. I used this little guy hard last year, and I just finished a couple hours of high rpm trimming to get ready for spring, and it didn't slow down one time.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Warning - Purchase extra Fixed String Head Assembly units.

This unit was purchased in September of 2013. Used several times and then again in May and June of 2014. The "Fixed String Head Assembly" (all plastic) began to wobble and melted on one side as it came off center. I checked the FAQ on how to remove the push ring (Item # 18) to remove the Head Assembly and found that many had the same problem. My other wacker of 20 + years had a metal head assembly. I called Sears repair center and they could not find anything listed on how to remove the push retainer ring only how to put it back on when replacing the Head Assembly. Called Sears parts and they will replace the Head Assembly under warranty. 5 Stars for that. Since there are others with the same problem, maybe Sears should look into a better replacement Head Assembly. The unit works great and starts easy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Weedwacker

Good product. Overall easy to use for a novice. Starting isn't really difficult if you read the instructions and follow them. It's a little heavier than I would like but it's easy to use and does a good job.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Product.

I found Sears to have the best selection and options when shopping for a weedwacker. This is my second Craftsman product purchased this year (I also purchased a Craftsman lawnmower a month ago), and I am satisfied with my purchase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Would not run

We could not get this to run for more more than a minute. We are going to bring it back. Might have something to do EPA regulations on new 2 cycles. I bought a new Poulon chain saw recently and had a lot of trouble but at least I did finally get that to run. We will either try the 4 stroke or buy a cordless elect.

Great Choice

This is the easiest starting trimmer I have ever owned. If the easy pull start is still too hard for you, the electric start steps in to satisfy.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
