<span>I love Sears and I have loved Cratsman products, but if this represents the future of "Craftsman", I am done. I bought the WeedWacker 2 months ago and had used it maybe 6 times before it wouldn't start anymore. When it did run previously, I had the problem
the same reported by others - it would only run at full speed and idle, but nothing in between and it would try to kill if not given full throttle. Now it won't start at all and I have damaged my shoulder trying to get it started. I checked the spark and the gas and both were fine. Tried to call the 800 number for help and got no answer after 10 minutes on hold. Was loading the trimmer into the car to return it when I notice it was leaking fuel/oil. Looked closer and discovered that the cover where the optional cover attaches was loose. Turns out that it needs to be tight to have compression in the cylinder. Besides being a ridiculous design, the quality control inspectors never caught that the two screws had not been tightened (and one was missing entirely). I am keeping the trimmer for now because I don't have the receipt, but I have NEVER been so disappointed with Sears!</span>

Hopefully this will help you all out and anyone else who buys this trimmer. I bought one and had it constantly stall out on me only in the off choke setting. I replaced the fuel mixture, cleaned and oiled the air filter and fiddled with the idle screw to no avail. The warranty rep told me to exchange the unit because it was only one week old. The replacement also stalled out in the off choke setting (perhaps even a little worse than the first trimmer did). Something was not clicking so I decided (after a lot of research) to adjust the lo-speed needle (closest of the two special screws towards the engine) on the carburetor (counter clock wise 1/8th of a turn to richen the mixture ? did it without the special Single D carb tool). Doing that plus increasing the idle fixed it. This may help those who have trouble starting it as well (I did not) Since then it?s operated for 45 minutes for two sessions straight with no hesitation or stalling at any rpm. It is a very strong and capable!

I received this trimmer as a gift and was happy to try the new "hassle-free" cutting head and string design because I've been very frustrated in the past with the traditional style line loading designs. However, after the original string wore out in about 10 minutes and I tried to replace the string, I was ready to go back to the old design. It was the worst design that I've ever seen. First of all, you shouldn't need to get out tools to replace the trimmer line. The need for a very small screw driver to push the release pin is simply idiotic. Second, the pin is a small, fragile "plastic" piece that broke the first time I pushed it in. Have the Craftsman designers forgotten words like "robust", "reliable" and "quality"? To make it even worse, the customer service manager wouldn't take it back because I didn't have the receipt (it was a gift.) Has Sears also forgotten what "customer service" means. I'm done with Craftsman and done with Sears.

I got this trimmer for Christmas. I first tried it in the spring. I followed the steps in the instructions. Then pulled and pulled and pulled. Nothing. Waited about an hour and pulled some more. Finally it started. Then died. Pulled some more and it started. Has to be held at full throttle or it will die. It worked like that for a few weeks. Now it won't start at all with the string. I bought the drill attachment. It works about as well as the string. And it's now leaking from the back cover. My neighbor gave me a heavily use Poulian cause my weeds were so thick. I think they sell these at ********. It starts right up, can idle, can run full throttle and most importantly, it works. I'm going to take mine back to Sears, but I doubt they will do anything. This will be my last Craftsman power garden tool.

Looking at prior reviews, the biggest complaint seems to be the starting. I've had it for a month and this one starts reliably as long as you follow the instructions. It is pretty powerful - good for medium-heavy grass. It's also not very heavy, so fairly easy to use. A good blend of power, weight, performance and a good price.

Works well. Great price. I also purchased the edger attachment that converts seamlessly. Not difficult to start. Very pleased with purchase.

This tool just won't work correctly. The only way to get full speed is theses the chotriggered press trigger fully. It ronly up but only lasts for roughly one second. I have to Keep pulling were starter cord and that makes the job take an absurdly long time.

On second use driveshaft overheated and melted the plastic head. Took it back and bought a Stihl, no more problems!

I bought this unit last spring and fought with it all last summer and again this summer. Change fuel at the first of every season with new fuel and treated with fuel stabilzer. Followed the starting instructions from sears for this weed wacker and it still won't start. Dont try with the pull rope because it won't start. The only way to start it is If you buy the electric drill attachment to start it. And even then it takes forever. I thought if would get better after it was broke in, NOT. I should have taken it back last spring but did not so am stuck with it. My fault. Next time I will not buy a craftsman.
