Overall great value... very quiet, "connected", easy to install
My 14-year-old garage door opener died horribly last week, and after figuring up the cost of replacement parts ($160 + shipping), I decided to buy this unit since it was on sale. I was a bit concerned about purchasing this model when I saw the average rating was 3.5 stars, but when I read the negative reviews, they all seemed to share two complaints: (1) Craftsman does not openly advertise that AssureLink isn't free. The first 12 months are free, but after that it's $20/year. (2) HomeLink on cars made prior to 2008 won't work with this garage door opener. My responses to these two issues: (1) True. This is why I didn't give it five stars. Sears/Craftsman should include this information on their website and on the product packaging. I read these reviews prior to going to the store, so I made an informed and conscious decision to give it a try. Since I got the opener on sale ($250), I felt the AssureLink was a freebie anyway. Speaking of which, it's a neat little freebie! I like it, and it was easy to set up. (Although it took a couple of tries for my phone -- or the AssureLink transceiver -- to find the garage door opener.) Also, you can go into the smartphone app's security settings (under "Account" > "Security") and disable the requirement to log in every time you launch the app. (2) Also true. However, this is true for all garage door openers made in 2011 and up. I called HomeLink (1-800-355-3515) and gave them my information, and I qualified for a free HomeLink Repeater kit. From what I've found online, you qualify if your car is a 2006-2008 model with factory-installed HomeLink system. What I like best about this garage door opener: (1) It is QUIET. As others have said, this unit operates very quietly. This is nice since our master bathroom is above the garage. (2) Remote RANGE. While it may move a tiny bit more slowly than my previous unit, it isn't a problem since the range on the remote(s) is pretty good (150 ft or more). (3) Motion SENSOR. The motion sensor on the door control is quite handy so I don't have to fumble for a light switch in the dark. It is fairly sensitive, but not so much so that it goes off when a bird flies by outside the garage window (which the door control faces). (4) EASE of installation. My wife thought I should hire a professional installer, but it turned out to be quite easy. The instructions are well-written and quite detailed for all aspects of assembly and installation. (5) ASSURELINK. As stated above, I view this feature as a freebie. This 3/4 hp opener costs about the same as the other 3/4 hp units without this feature, so I simply see it as a bonus feature for the first year of ownership. If I decide to continue using the feature after that, it will cost me $20 per year, which seems reasonable. At this time I doubt I'll renew, but we'll see. Also, the AssureLink website is working just fine for remote control of the opener. Also, the Craftsman smartphone app (Android for me) does allow you to uncheck the security option for requiring the password every time your start the app. In this way, you can avoid re-entering the password repeatedly. (6) Battery BACKUP. Peace of mind. The trade-off here is the cost of battery replacement, which the installation guide states should last 3-5 years. Note that the motor in the opener is a DC motor, so it runs purely off the battery. The AC is only hooked up to recharge the battery. (7) AUTOMATIC close feature. Although I haven't set it up yet, this kind of obviates the AssureLink feature. If it's set up to automatically close after a set amount of time, I don't have to worry about driving off with the door up. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Disappointing product and warranty
Wish I had read more reviews and more into warranty information before purchasing this product. After installing this opener only 5 months ago it has stopped working and given an error code that the logic board has failed (I see this issue is common). Since I am outside the 3 month purchase window I am not eligible for warranty service and Craftsman is unwilling to send me the replacement part. The only way to resolve the issue is to pay a service tech $75 to diagnose, plus any additional labor costs (Even though the part is still covered under warranty). My other option is to purchase the part for $150. Since the unit cost was $235 obviously the better investment would be to find another brand with better warranty support. Very disappointing.

Awesome Opener - and great customer service

I bought this garage door opener a a couple of months ago. Everything works great. I love the AssureLink - It's easy to set up, and easy to add to your cell phone (I have the iPhone app). The AssureLink hasn't any annual fee. Don't know why people post that. The phone logs on automatically. You do need to enter your password on the computer access, but that's not a big deal. You can set up alerts for, for instance, the door is open for longer than 10 minutes. Or, if you wish - EVERY time the door opens. You can also open and close the door from your phone. I did have a problem with my gateway and after speaking with an awesome customer service rep (Randi in Tuscon), the gateway was replaced and everything is working perfectly. Door is very quiet, the remotes have good range, everything works really well. A great purchase, worth the extra money, and worth the peace of mind.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Terrible product

This opener will not work any car that's over two years old! Without having to buy one or two repeaters depending on the brand of cars you own. Worse, nobody at Sears knows anything about this nor do they inform you there may be a problem! The explanation from the manufacturer is that a new security code system is now used and only new cars are equipped for it! Useless waste of money!

Love it

Works as advertised. The only trouble was operator error, First off, I kick the sensor light out of alignment and tried programing the my link to my car. Well it wouldn't work so I erased all the codes to put in a new code for the car. Wrong, figured out what was wrong when looking at the wall switch and it tells me the alignment is wrong. Fixed that and then had to reprogram the remotes, wireless remote outside and the one in the car. Everything worked then. Installing the assurelink was more operator error, don't read the instructions and you will have fun all afternoon trying to figure it out. Finally did it right and it was easy, everything worked. Went to settings and turned the security off on the account and now you don't have to enter the email and password each time. No whare does it say you have to pay for the service, maybe in the past, but not now.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Just purchased amazing features

Purchased over the weekend. Installed very easily (warning on the addendum). Change in directions with a Spring Trolley Nut. Had to get a new part and Chamberlin sent and shipped within a few days. Finished the install and have set up the wi-fi. very easy to program the unit as well as the wi-fi/online set up. Great features to let you know when the door is opening and closing. will send an alert and email to your cell phone. you can open and close with a smart phone or thru the online program. It runs smooth and does not make much noise with the belt drive. Has a battery backup and wall unit is easy to program. Good product with great features!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

A decent garage door opener

The product is very quiet when opening and closing. It was very easy to install particularly if you are handy. My previous opener was a Craftsman change driven. I like the battery backup and also the wall control which gives you the time and battery charge status. The one thing that disappointed me was my 2002 lexus in car remote could not be activated. I was told I had to buy a separate adapter. Would have been nice to know this upfront. It cost $37+ including shipping cost.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
