WOW!!! I am not a big fan of “cordless” tools because the batteries constantly need recharging in the middle of a job. Knowing this about me, my wife bought an extra battery to keep in the charger while the other one was in use. I spent the afternoon in my shop, first getting used to the Craftsman 12 Volt Nextec Lithium-Ion Hammerhead and then using it on several little projects requiring small nails. Before I realized it, the afternoon was gone and I was still using the first battery without a noticeable decrease in the power of the Hammerhead. I was amazed and may be a convert to more cordless tools if it continues to work this well in my cordless tools; all two of them. :-)
Of my three Nextec 12v lithium-ion battery packs, two failed within 4 months after only very light use. The third battery pack has worked fine for over a year. Inside the battery packs are three 4 volt batteries and all three must charge to deliver the 12 volts required to run my drill. In my two battery packs that failed, all three of the 4 volt batteries were not charging properly. In one case, only one battery was charging giving me 4 volts output and in the other, two of them were charging for 8 volts when using the Nextec charger that was supplied with my drill. When I charged the Nextec battery packs with a variable voltage electronic power supply set to a maximum voltage of 12.6 volts, a maximum current of 500 ma, and a maximum charge duration of 2 hours, the "failed" battery packs charged to the full 12 volts and would again run my drill. Since my Nextec charger works fine with my 3rd Nextec battery pack, I have concluded that the charger that came with my drill is O.K,, but that there are defects in the safe charging circuitry that is built into my two defective battery packs. I do not recommend that others try my technic for charging their Nextec batteries because lithium ion batteries can explode if you do not know how to properly charge them. I am an electrical engineer with expertise in this field. I do recommend that Craftsman investigate and fix the defect in their Nextec batteries, especially in view of so many complaints about them.

These batteries never cease to amaze me! They are so small and lightweight but yet have enough power to tear through drilled holes and set long deck screws with no problems whatsoever! You will not be disappointed with these things for sure!
Although I already had a bevy of the smaller 4V stuff for small jobs around the house, and love the new 20V Bolt-On stuff for the bigger jobs around the homestead. But I still find myself reaching for my Nextec tools sometimes. The drill/driver (and other tools) is powerful enough for all but the biggest jobs, and the charge lasts a respectable time. I bought this battery just to have another backup when I am on the job.
Please be aware that irrespective of the parts listing for the 12 Volt Lithium-Ion battery pack model 320.11221 in the accompanying manual, the five parts making up the pack are not available. The two prongs which clip the battery pack to the NEXTEC tool are prone to breaking off. As the part (3320668000) is not sold separately, one is forced to buy a new battery pack.
These batteries last longer than I expected. The right angle impact driver seems to run longer than the Dremel tool. At this cost, I just like to have a few spares in the case to stay productive.
Do yourself a favor and stock up on extra batteries. These are always good to have and are usually the first thing to wear our on any power tool. Having some spares is always a good idea. It would be nice if it came in a sealed package rather than a box.
