Excellent Welder for the Price
First, yes of course there are better welders out there, but for twice the price...or more. I bought this welder back in 2005, and let me tell you; I have put this thing through it's paces. I've logged HUNDREDS of hours behind the gun of this welder working on classic cars/trucks and other projects. I've rebuilt 2 muscle car's, custom built a truck frame for a 50's truck, welded trailer ramps, and done many other odd jobs with it. It can handle thin metal for the floorpans, and with a flip of the switch, handle the thick metal of a truck frame. I can personally attest to the durabaility of this welder. I am ashamed to admit it, but one afternoon I tipped over the cart with the welder on it, and watched the welder slam into the concrete from 3 feet up. I figured it was dead, But when I picked it up and turned it back on, it kept on going like nothing happened. Another feature that is nice is the ability to pack it up and take this with you to other locations. The fact that is is a 110V unit and not a 220V means you can plug it in anywhere. I would recommend investing in the gas conversion kit, as the welds you will produce are much cleaner. Again, highly recommended product for the price. Would definitely purchase again.

mig welder with cart
i bought this welder after i sold my floor model 220 volt mig welder, because this welder seemed to be perfect for what i do and for it's portablity. the only problem is they did not tell you that you have to buy a regulater with this welder. after checking to find that niether on the box, internet or in the owners manuel does it tell you that you have to purchase a regulater. it does state that you do have to buy the bottle and gas sepratly, which i already have. when i called sears to see what the deal was they told me to TAKE IT AND LIKE IT, and purchase a regulater at $99.99 from them.so if you are looking to purchase a welder from sears that is only avalible online now, make sure you call customer care and make the welder has everything you need before you purchase it.

great welder for the money and quality

a great welder for the few negative comments ,anyone that has been a welder by trade or has ever purchased new welder knows that they need to lease or buy a argon tank, most of the people purchasing these welder are for around the farm or home and they can get one that will do there needs with a flux core welder, witch only means that the argon gas equivalent is in the middle of the wire,a Hobart, craftsman,or any other 120 volt welder, they are sold to work right out of the box with flux core wire, where argon gas is not needed, flux actually has a little more penetration but does not look as pretty but can be used outdoors in the wind where argon can not be,because the gas is blown away .************** sells the small argon tanks for around 80 bucks and a solid brass relater with the twin gauges ,showing tanks overall pressure and then the gas control regulator so you can adjust your argon flow to8 to10 psi get the 75 argon 25%,co2 mixture,39.95 at harbor ,30 plus yrs welding

Really nice welder

I bought this model used for $225 with the gauges and the gas bottle and it was a year old when I got it. It's a great all around unit and it has been perfect for everything around the garage. I've used it on motorcycles, cars, lawn & garden and it has always performed flawlessly with either .023 or .30 wire. I got it pretty cheap but it is well worth the retail price.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

lots of hours no problems

I Bought this unit several years back, and have used the heck out of it. We have built 30 plus steel handrail units over 6' long out of 1.5" .065 square steel tube.I have done a ton of fence repairs. It has never let me down. Wire feed is pretty smooth with the 10lb rolls of wire. I have pushed it to weld 1/4" thick hinge plates, and while it didn't like that so much , it got the job done. I did put a upgraded ground clamp and ground line, which boosts performance somewhat.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Little Welder

First off, let me say that I am a novice welder. I received this welder as a Christmas gift a few years ago, and had used it for little jobs from time to time until last year when I finally built a small shop and now I actually have a place to use it. My first "project" was to build a welding table, which turned out very well. My next project, of which I am very proud, was a utility trailer. I started with an axle and springs from an old boat trailer, bought some angle iron and other parts and began working on the trailer. I could not have been more pleased with the results. Several friends have commented that it doesn't look "homemade" at all....and I would have to agree. I had both 3/16" x 2" and 1/8" x 2" angle as well as some 3" square tubing, and this welder handled everything VERY well. I did find that .035" wire worked best (Lincoln brand wire), especially on the heavier steel. It had less spatter and burned in better than the .030" wire. I did hit the duty cycle on it a few times and the built-in overload protection worked as it should have. After a few minutes of cool down, it was ready to go again. The welds on even the heaver steel burned completely in as they should. I would not hesitate to recommend this welder to anyone. It's easy to setup and use and does a great job.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great bargain welder.

I'm still a novice welder, and won't even try to pretend to be an expert, but for the money you can't go wrong buying this welder if you're looking for a portable 110 volt machine.

I bought this unit in 2005 because I needed to learn how to weld for work, but didn't have a lot of time to practice with the welder on our service truck. It was easy to set up and I was burning metal within a few minutes of unpacking it.

In the 6+ years I've owned the machine, I've repaired vehicles, built a sidecar designed to mount onto a bicycle and fabricated brackets and other parts for my Harley. When I was doing an internship for some classes I was taking, our main job was to repair several trailers. The person I was working with had been welding for close to 40 years and was a Miller and Lincoln fan. When I told him I had a Craftsman welder he kind of chuckled...then he saw the welder and was genuinely impressed. We spent about 3 weeks working on the various projects, and my Craftsman kept up with his Lincoln every step of the way. In fact, on a day when I wasn't there and he used my welder instead of his to "see what it could do" and he told me that if he needed a small GMAW/FCAW welder, he'd seriously consider this unit.

If you're looking for a small portable gas/no gas wire feed welder to learn on or just need a portable 110 unit, go get this one. You won't be dissapointed.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
