      A well used saw
I came to this site as I'm looking to download a manual for this saw (recently moved and my old manual is somewhere in a safe place <g>). While here I decided to look at the reviews. I've had the Craftsman 10" band saw for several years, probably close to five ( I bought it on sale when a local Sear's Hardware was closing). I had a perfectly good Delta 10" at the time, but as I make musical instruments the resaw capacity was the selling point - I snapped it up and then sold my Delta. The nominal depth of cut on this saw is 4 5/8", but the measured distance from table to guide is almost 5" (I've never tried to go that thick). I haven't seen other 10" saws that go beyond about 4''. and my Delta was less. For the gentleman that mentioned that the throat depth is less than 10" may I say that the 9 5/8" of this saw is also more than most. The size of the saw is defined by the size of the wheels, not the throat depth. The missing 3/8" is the distance between the "rising blade" and the outside of the riser housing. Again this saw gives a maximum capacity as compared to others. I would have bought the saw for the resaw depth, and at full price. But the addition of roller guides and the metal housing (nice to be able to attach one's "tuning tools" with a magnet, don't have to look for the right Allen wrench or the engineer's square) are a plus. For those with a small shop who yet want capacity this is your saw. It is portable (sort of). Let me expand on that. I'm 73 years old, and had an unexpected below the knee amputation a few days after we moved, and before my shop was set up. I was able to mount my saw on a new "wheelbarrow" table while sitting in a chair (and that involved lifting it to mark the wood base for drilling the saw mounts, then lowering it to set the base on the metal table and bolt it there, then lifting the saw again to lower it onto the "base/table" combo). It took a while, and I confess to moments when I thought I wouldn't make it (with the saw in my lap), but it took about two hours including the drilling. Please pardon the personal comments, but it should tell you that this machine is maneuverable - and I like to boast now and then. OK, the gripes - none of them negate the price/performance ratio of this saw. I'd like a bit more power, but you won't find that in other 10" saws either. The lower guides could be easier to access, but they aren't that difficult. I'd love a better rip fence, but one can handle that with shop made jigs. The odd length blade is a problem, but there are many custom blade makers who don't charge an arm and a leg for custom sizes. The miter guage, as someone said, isn't the highest quality, but then again I really don't trust better ones either - always set the guage with a square or protractor. If I find I need more power, or more capacity, I'll look into the Craftsman 12" saw - the picture on the site looks as if it is the same basic design. But this saw has been reliable for a few years now so I'll swallow my temptation for "bigger and better" until I need it. As to my gripes, they are totally irrelevant. I don't care what blade packages Sear's provides - I go custom anyway. I want to choose my TPI, rake, tooth pattern, and etc. for each use - I have six blades ranging from 1/8" to 1/2", and in different patterns for the stock thickness, one can't expect Sear's to carry speciality items in the way a custom maker does. The rip fence isn't a problem either - although I wish Kreg would make a speciality fence for 10" saws instead of just 14". I have several home made wooden fence faces, and I clamp the Kreg resaw guide to one if I'm resawing. When doing an accurate job, such as resawing 0.6mm sections for the ribs of a lute, one must do one's own set up. A planed wooden "auxiliary fence" can be shimmed against the provided fence to get a straight rip, and the resaw should be done with a "point fence" anyway. OK, enough rambling. This is a fine saw for the price, and it is a fine saw compared with the competition, and it is a fine saw for the jobs I want to do (which are, at times, a bit sensitive - although I admit that sometimes I just flip it on and run a quick cut). Best, Jon

      Poor blade adjustments
Well like many others I to read the reviews on this Craftsman Band Saw, then went out and purchased my saw. I must say this is not my first band saw made by Craftsman that I've purchased. The one I'm replacing lasted me about 15 years with not one problem. Set up was easy, Its when I decided to change from the factory blade to a 1/8" blade. I spent over an hour attempting to keep the blade from coming of the wheel. Following the instructions word for word, I was not able to track the blade in the center of the wheel. Almost every time I turned on the switch, the blade wanted to shift into another position. After 20 days of this saw I returned it back to Sears for a full refund.

      10 inch band saw

I had a older 3 wheel drive belt 10 inch band saw, but it was very difficult to change the blade. With this 10 inch band saw it is a pleasure to change and adjust. It is well built with a nice size table with a nice fence and guide.

      Great Saw!

I am very pleased with this purchase. The setup was really easy with the clear directions received. The blade was not difficult to change the first time I tried. The guide is a very nice feature. Good value for the price.

      Excellent Small Bandsaw

Needed to replace my 14" Delta Bandsaw. I also needed to save space. This has been the perfect tool. It was easy to assemble. It cut nearly true out of the box. I am impressed with it's power so far. It cut through plywood like butter & red oak easily too. The adjustments are easily accessible and it's really really quiet for what I expected. Unless you're a pro, this tool is perfect for home shops.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Great Buy!!

Worked great right out of the box. 10 minute set-up was all it needed. I would recommend this to all, especially the hobbyist. Made two sets of 'Ducks' pull toys out of 2X's for the babies the first day. Came out great.

Easy setup, does a good job

I have had this a couple of weeks and have done quite a bit of resawing and log slicing with this saw. I am very happy with the results, the sawed material need very little planing when finished. I have worked with pine, red oak, hickory, bolivan rosewood and cypress with no trouble. I would have given a 5 star rating had I not needed to do the minimal adjustments changing the upper guide height but it is truly a minor inconvenience as it only takes a minute, or so, to do.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Great price band saw

I bought this band saw for my son for his Christmas present. Very fast shipping right to my door with no extra charge. He has already set it up and is using it. So far he loves the product. Seems to be durable and a great tool for the price.
