DO watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9630dj_9jk for reference. Good packaging. Needs 10mm metric wrench for trunnion adjustment, had to reverse the upper left trunnion mount bolt as the housing didn't provide enough clearance for a wrench, bad design there. Tossed the installed blade, my .014 ga 1/4" Olson blade tracks true with no adjustments. I don't like roller guides, might try to refit with cool blocks somehow. This saw is for a specific repeated precise dedicated cut, I'm not asking much from it so it should work well. Runs very quiet. Fence isn't beefy but sturdy enough to work for my needs, mitre gauge is all plastic. Table is dead flat, needed a little adjustment. Specs don't tell you the table height is 14.5". This is important to know as ergonomically it should be level with your lower arm bent at the elbow and parallel to the floor. Stand I made was 4" higher than that and needs to be cut shorter for my height. Saw has a solid feel, decent fit and finish for the money.

The motor tends to bog down when cutting a 2x2, so I just take it slow.

I wanted a band saw to make toys for my grandson. I was worried a bit about quality and performance but hesitant to jump up into the next price range near $600. Originally I bought a slightly more expensive saw on line. While it was yellow and blue like the real German one, it was a poorly designed knockoff. It arrived in a broken box with only cardboard packing. Motor housing had broken off, bearings were rusty, no directions, etc. This Craftsman saw is great! It came neatly and solidly packed in a styrofoam shell. All parts were rust free and neatly bagged. Directions were clear and set-up easy. (If I have dwelt a bit on packing its because it IS important to the final result.) In particular, the vertical blade guide movement is very smooth. Next, while not clear in the description, there are TWO sets of three ball bearing blade guides, one above and one below the table. The rip fence locks firmly and stays in place when ripping. Its a perfect saw for my needs!

They are asking for a review soon after the purchase so I haven't had a long time frame but so far it has been not just good but great. Used it right out of the box and it is sturdy and solid.

I've owned other band saws in the past and needed something compact. I've recently built a banjo out of walnut with this tool, requiring extreme accuracy. Some setup required more time and care than more expensive machines, but this truly does everything I expected. All of the high ratings for this tool are deserved.

I give it 4 stars (for now). That could get better or it could get worse. I would give it 5 stars but the owners manual is lousy. It does not tell you that you can adjust the bottom tracking wheel (you got to figure that out for yourself, and it does matter that it is adjusted, or it ain't going to track at all). I still don't know what that black sliding thing is that is about 3 inches long and 1 1/4" wide inside the top front up against the blade height adjustment bar. There were a few other details they did not bother to share with us, but .....SURPRISE!!! All that may seem petty, but why bother telling us anything at all for that matter. Just hit or miss on setting it up. Crash, boom, bang, and hopefully not ouch!!!. Enough venting on that. I have not been able to cut with it yet other than set up cuts. I have a feeling though that I am going to be VERY happy with it, but with any power saws now days-be gentle tightening things up so that you don't break the nuts and bolts.

This is a good little saw. Stock blade was next to useless, Higher quality blades make this a very good small bandsaw.
