Mostly pluses, a few negatives.

Over all, I've been very impressed.  It has lots of power and the belt moves at a very fast 2400 feet per minute, saving time and producing a very nice product.  The disc turns an impressive 3100 rpm.  After using my old 4x6 Craftsman sander for several years, this new one is a delight to use.  You can increase sanding pressure on the belt without lugging the motor down.  On the negative side, the dust shroud covers about 25% of the belt surface, leaving only about 15" exposed.  This makes the sander useless for edge-sanding longer boards.  In order to expose the entire 20" of the available belt surface requires a major modification, which probably voids the warranty.  Also, the dust collector port is a non-standard size.  I have 5 other tools that connect to the 2 1/4" hose on my dust collector system, and this sander is the only one that doesn't fit, being about 1/8" too small.  I had to pick up a flexible rubber coupling from Lowe's plumbing department to make the transition.  Also, the disc spins off a lot of dust without being picked up by the lower dust cover.  Otherwise, after getting the dust collector hooked up and modifying the dust shroud, I've been very pleased with it.  No doubt, it's a great sander for the price!

Not for precision work

This is a big, very heavy unit with large abount of plastic on it and a cheap power switch.  That aside, I was still pretty impressed with it when I pulled it out of the box.  The problem really came when I set the table up and slid the miter guage into its' slot.  The bar that the gauge rides on is 1/8'' higher then the table.  That means anything you put on the table and guide with the miter guage won't be at a 90 degree angle to the sand paper because it will be setting on the guide bar.  The uneven surface makes it impossible to square up edges or do any precision work. This seems like a big flaw for something in this price range and something that a compitant manufacturer should have caught.  Sure, you could grind the surface of the bar down, but for $270 I shouldn't have to modify the tool to make it work properly. Craftsman used to mean quality, but now, whoever they have makeing thier tools is cutting corners and manufacturing junk.  Stay away from Craftsman powertools and go with a more reputable brand like Jet or Grizzly.

Work Horse!!!

I had this on my wish list and my wife purchased this for my birthday and I was not disappointed after opening up the box and putting it up on my workbench.

6 x 9 Disc Sander is a Woodshop Essential

The disk sander is great for doing precise sanding and for sharpening your wood tools, shaping parts for your projects and cleaning burrs and such. .  The work table attatchment is extremely stable and sturdy and it is adjustable from 90 to 45 degrees. the work table has a miter slot and a miter guage to work with. This work table easily is attatched to either the sanding disk station or the belt sanding station.. This sander weighs approx 88 pounds and needs a solid work surface to operate off of. Eventhough, this unit has rubber feet to limit vibration and to keep from sliding around, I would recommend to secure the sander to your work surface by bolting it down. This sander sports a hefty 3/4HP motor and has plenty of power for just about any of your shop sanding needs.

Changing the belts and disks is very easy and quick to do. The belt tracking is simple to use and requires no tools. the belt station can be operated horizontally or vertically and at various stops in between. I also recommend using a cleaning stick to help keep your disks and belts clean and lasting longer. There is a dust port to attatch your shop vac to to help limit dust around your work area.

I have only had this bench top sander for a short time, but I have used it quite a bit already and was able to shape several parts for my current project and to clean up some other items that I have been working on. This saved me a lot of time from how I had to do this same work before. I plan on making me a work station soley for my new bench sander with rollers to be able to move around the shop as needed.

My only complaints that I have found so far is that if you mount the sander, attatching the miter table to the back of the belt oprtion of the sander is a little hard to reach and if you need to use the end of the belt for contour sanding, you will need access to 3 different sides of your sander. Most work benches, this might be a problem to be able to access 3-sides of your sander with a adequate work area. so mounting to your work bench may limit your access to parts of the sander. I think building my mobile work station will solve this issue for me in my shop. This is my only negative for this sander.

I will update my review as I put more hours on the unit, but for the moment, I give my birthday gift  high marks and would have no issues recommending this unit to my friends or anyone in the market for a hefty bench top sander.

Good stuff here my friends

I really haven't used it alot but when I have that bad boy has some power. The UPS man wasn't too happy about taking it out of the truck and lugging it up to the door. I wasn't home and this thing is heavy

Much needed shop tool

As a long standing Sears customer, My shop consists almost entirely of Chraftsman tools. I always look for what I need at sears first. I anticipate many enjoyable hours with this new sander. It replaces an older Craftsman sander which still runs very well. It however  is missing an Allen key set screw. Hope this can be replaced.

Start capacitor bad try and buy one from sears

I used the sander twice and on the third try the motor failed to get to rpm range and tripped the breaker. Upon removing the bottom cover I could see the capiacitor was smoking and leaking an oily fluid. 13 months old what a piece of junk.

The dual task sander

I bought this sander because of it's dual purpose abilities plus it has enough power to get the job done. I mainly use this sander for wood and Ivory and it really does an excellent job, not only that but it saves me time from having to jump from one machine to another.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 3/4 hp Belt/Disj sander is a solid powerful beast.

I received the sander and it was packaged real well except for the sanding disk.  It came with the protective paper pealed back so the adhesive was exposed and dirty.  I used it anyway but have doubts if it will stay on the sander.  The sander was easy to assemble was set up in minutes.  It has plenty of power so I think it will be strong enough for anything I plan on doing with it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This belt/disc sander is well suited for light duty home use

If you're looking for a light duty, compact combo sander, this unit will suite you well. There is some assembly and set up required, but don't worry, in fewer than 20 minutes you'll be up and running. I strongly recommend attaching your shop vac to the integrated dust port of the belt sander. It's there for a reason and when the shop vac's on, it works well to limit dust. I got exactly the performance I expected.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
