Worth a look as an emergency tool set or a first time toolset

This is my second purchase of the Max Axess toolset, I keep these in my trucks for roadside repairs and general maintenance.  I decided to try the 20 piece set given the price and the fact that it had the majority of sizes I was going to need.

Be advised that this is only the 3/8" drive set, and for some of the smaller sizes you may need to use the standard adapter or a convential ratchet/socket altogether.  If that's the case, then I would suggest the 30 piece or 51 piece set that has 1/4" drives in it.  Again, I give this 4 stars because I don't see much exapandability to the set nor do I see it ever replacing a full blown mechanics set.  With that said if you're a shade tree mechanic, home owner, tinkerer, or need a spare tool set, I would consider and recommend this set.

Too Wimpy For Use Outside The Home
The pass- through design is pretty cool, but the 9/16 socket split its sides on a rusted bolt (but c'mon, its just a 3/8 soft bolt - shoulda twisted the bolt off first). Luckily, I had an old, cheapo, standard socket set on hand to finish the job. The max axess sockets are all pretty thin-sided. Don't expect them to hold up to serious work. They'd be fine to put the wife's knick knacks together, but just to be safe, let her do the wrenching. ;) Also noticed that the forward/reverse lever could go beyond the detent position, so you'd have to mess around with it and get it in the right place in order for the ratchet to work. One other thing, if you're working in greasy, oily or wet conditions, it can be somewhat difficult to pull the sockets out of the extension - not much to grip compared to standard socket sets. In short, if Craftsman will beef the design up, it has potential, but till then I'm disappointed. I expect more from Craftsman.

Craftsman 20pc Max Axess 3/8-in. Dr. Socket Wrench Set

I purchased this socket set to work on my automobile. My regular sockets work well in most places but there were times when I needed the pass thru sockets. On thoses occasions these were a lifesaver. They have worked well and are easy to use.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Long time a coming

I'm a backyard mechanic and DYI'er who has had many projects that end in either having to cut off a nut/bolt, or having to use a tool that is not optimal for the job of removing a nut or bolt just because it was not possible to get a socket onto it. Sure I've got deep-set sockets, but even then they aren't always deep enough. This socket set takes the hassle out of taking the nut off of long bolts by easily slipping the bolt through the socket and wrench all the way down to the nut. I've had a cheap knock-off set like this, but the quality just isn't what you get from a Craftsman product!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Fun socket set.

I love this socket set. The socket wrench not as deep and able to fit in tighter spaces. The tools are well made and it is easy to get the sockets on and off. I highly recommend.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
