Bought this vice 2 years ago and i mount it on my work bench. I didnt use it that much but now i'm doing some plumbing work in my house. I was threading an 11/4 pipe in the pipe jaws. When i tightened it and started threading one of the pipe jaws snapped. The cause of it was that the surface of vice, were jaws mount wasnt straight enough so when i tightened (didnt use a cheater) the cast iron jaw broke in half. That is poorly manufactured in china. I'd rather pay extra money for it to be made in USA for better quality. Now i have to replace it cause if i replace the jaws again they will break again and then i ll have to stop my job, besides that i have to drill more holes in my workbench for another one.

I have had this vise for almost a year now, and it has worked well so far. Haven't had any issues with the jaws coming loose. Seems to be built well.

there is no better vise for your money than this vise period. i had bought 3 other import vise's online and returned all of them. a wilton 740, wilton ws4, yost 4" compact vise. the ws4 and the yost were junk. the wilton was okay but had alot of play in the main screw. this vise rotates very smoothly and has two seperate casting blocks in the underside instead of a crude steel flat bar like most others to clamp down the upper and lower section to stop the turning. it has twice the psi rating as comparable priced vises. If you want a better vise than this you will have to buy a made in america vise and pay $450 or more.

This appears to be well built. Good jaw alignment. Suggest you disassemble the dynamic jaw and apply grease to the slide and screw. Too bad it is made in China.

Overall good vise but I only give it one star due to the fact that craftsman has started making things in china. Very disappointed in craftsman which is suppose to be an american made company. Keep it up and you might loose a loyal customer.

Very useful for my home workshop. It's been in use about 2 weeks and does exactly what I bought it for.

I had no intention to spend too much money for a bench vise. I was in the market for a bench vise and I kept reading about bad reviews about the cheaper bench vises. It was discouraging but I am willing to spend more money if I can get a quality tool that will last a long time. This bench vise had rave reviews and it looks great in the picture but the picture doesn't do it justice. When you see it in person and use it, you can immediately notice lubrication and the high quality parts that were used. It is 13 pounds heavier than similar size bench vises which is a pretty good sign considering that it is a vise. The handle works so smoothly and the base swivel works perfectly. The vise does its job and I think that I will have it for many years. I highly recommend it.

I do a good bit of heating and welding with the vise. After awhile the vise jaws got beatup and needed replacing. The vise is still a current product sold by Sears. Called parts and got moved around a few times but in the end they do not carry the replacement jaws. The online stores shows one of its great faetures is the replaceable pipe and top jaws. Problems is Sears does not sell them and has no idea where I can get them. I would expect more from a craftsman product.

This is a very well made vice. It is very stout, there is no play in it and the jaws line up perfectly. After comparing to other chain store vises, the Craftsman was an easy decision. On the down side, there are some metal chips on the inside of the vise from the manufacturing process. And while there was a gallon of oil coated on the outside of the vise, there was very little on the inside where there should be. The paint job isn't the greatest either. If you don't mind opening it up to clean and grease it, you'll be pleased.

This isn't overpriced, it?s over engineered. I have been looking for a good vise for a while and nothing compares to this one from any of the local big box retailer in terms of materials and machining. My grandkids' grandkids should inherit this someday. You truly do get what you pay for with this product.

The vise is much better than other higher priced vises sold at other stores. The jaws and clamping force are great and it looks great in my shop. There isn't any sloppy feel or looseness felt when opening the jaws. The picture doesn't show the two rubber bumpers on the handles but mine did come with them.Over all this is a good product and i think it will last a life time.
