Bought this mower last year to replace wore out JD LT 133. I like the mower so far. I do not like that the exhaust and a lot of heat is in my face while using. The exhaust blows forward and the mower drives into the exhaust. I think this could me improved by directing the exhaust to the side away from the operator.
One compelling problem that ALL OWNERS of this model will eventually experience is the "grinding in reverse sound". I've had two Sears Repair Techs come out to diagnose issue this month. Both techs refused to make any repairs. Here's why - this problem is so common with this model that their protocol for repair, based on manufacturer's recommendation, dictate that they not repair or replace parts, unless tractor will not go into reverse or go forward. According to the Sear's repair tech, it's not worthwhile for Sears to repair/replace tranny, since grinding sound WILL return within 2 to 3 months or sooner. The plastic transmission housing is the culprit, however, manufacturer is unwilling to call it a defect. Repair tech also mentioned that it may be worth trying to return tractor for credit and spending $200-300 extra on tractor with metal transmission housing. We will see in the next day or two if Sear's customer service will do the right thing.
ive had my tractor for a year now and my mower transmission has failed again I'm so fed up with Sears they need to fix the transmisson problem I love the turn tight and how well it cuts when I can actually drive it to cut my grass it mows fine in forward but reverse it make a loud grinding noise

I bought the riding mover for my husband for Christmas !!! He didn't necessarily want one. However, I decided to buy him one anyway !! He was surprised & he loved it !!! As the riding mover is also a tractor - he put gas in it & road it that day !! The mover runs smooth - sounds good, you can also purchase a snow blade for the tractor - that will be his valentines present !!! very good mover I would highly recommend the mover to everyone !!! Craftsman are excellent products - purchased many in the past & will continue to purchase them in the future !!!

Second time out mower dropped the center blade and engine began making a loud whistling sound. Tech has been scheduled. Like the tight turns, the fast speed is too fast to mow. At times it doesn't seem to want to back up. I'm concerned.
Mows good and picks up EVERYTHING!!! I got the triple bagger with it and works super. Tractor is very fast compared to my Simplicity and Cu Cadet. That really helps on cutting time. I am not a fan of the reverse pedal but small thing. I would buy again. This isa Husqvarna in Sears paint color so all parts should be competitively priced and available!
I have been using this tractor for 3 mos. after using an 11hp Wheelhorse tractor for 28 years. The Wheelhorse still works, but the 42? rear discharge deck rusted through. There are many pros associated with the new Craftsman, such as: more power, tighter turning, quieter, less vibration, wider deck, more comfortable seat, easy to adjust deck height, wash port, and continuously variable speed. However there are a few cons, the most significant of which is the accelerator pedal. It?s too high. If it were not for the cruise control, I would have returned it. You cannot rest your heel and control the pedal. When I first used the tractor, the cruise control would not engage. A repairman came out and straightened a bent rod, but it still would not engage reliably. The cruise control is mechanical and when you lift the control to engage it, it connects to a rocker that causes a rod to engage the teeth of a gear. I learned that you have to hold the plastic control between your thumb and fingers and pull rearward with your thumb on top as if to rotate the control downward. Once I mastered the technique, the cruise control works fine. Two other minor problems are that it is impossible to see the fuel through the sightglass in any lighting condition, even with a flashlight. As others have mentioned, the convenient deck height control gets in the way of your mount/dismount. This tractor has shortened the time it takes me to mow 1.5 acres, although I still prefer a rear discharge deck. I have not experienced problems using reverse, but my lawn is flat.
i have had my new craftman a month now and the transmission is grinding in reverse it mows forward just fine but grinds in reverse i called the sears repair man to come out but he wont be out till wensday so we will have to wait to see what he says

Have ran this machine for about 3 months or so and haven't had a single problem with this unit. Cuts great and even. My only gripes with this machine is that the seat being black gets very hot when left in the sun. Would have been nice if it were red or any other color to mitigate this. I actually bought a JD seat cover since it was yellow to stay cool and it has pockets on the back. Also the gass gauge window is useless. It's so small and rudimentary that you can't use it. But other than that happy buy. Never had any problems with the reverse being slow or noise. It's not very fast but I can go up an incline in reverse no problem so long as I can keep traction. I can cut my one acre in half an hour. Would be nice if the chute for mowing was easily removable since I'll never use it since I always mulch or bag.
