My 12-year-old electric craftsman chain saw has finally died for the final time. So I purchased this one to replace it. Bad mistake! After 30 minutes of accumulated use during the day. The following items were noted.
1. Chain falls off drive gear about once every 10 minutes of use. Seems any contamination that gets inside will derail the unit.
2. The no tools adjustment for chain tension is of no value. It loosens up during cutting from vibrations.
3. 7 out of every 10 times you try to start the unit, the chain only sits there while the motor in running full tilt.
4. While cutting branches of at least 1-inch thickness, the chain will just stop while the motor screams on.
5. The chain saw is so over engineered for safety that it is dangerous. The chain break is useless.
I had neighbors come over and try out my new saw. Everyone was disappointed. All reported that the unit was a piece of junk.
We tried every combination of chain slack and chain tension to try and correct the problems encountered.
Nothing seems to work at all.
I have used chain saws, manual saws, power and non-power tools for over 50 years. This is by far the worst device I have found to date.
I owned a few Craftsman chainsaws ( both gas and electrical) before. I purchased this one to replace my old one that I purchased long time ago. The old one was lighter weight and was very easy to use. This new one is much heavier and is very difficult to use. The new feature that stop the chain from continue moving after the power switch is released actually keeps the unit from running entirely. The sensors are way too sensitive and light forward pressure to the left hand shield will make the safety feature kicks in. The cutting keep losing power during cutting, and once it stopped, very often it cannot start the unit entirely until I have to reset it or until I pull the chain a little on the log. In order to make my cutting more continuously, I have to put a tie down to secure the left hand shield from moving forward; otherwise, it keeps stopping during cutting. To my right hand, I need to apply very strong grab in order to keep the unit running in full power. My right hand get tire very fast. My other new gas powered chainsaw also has has issues, it is hard to start up, and it won't even stay idle. This is a different review. I used to buy many power tools from Sears, after my experience with different problems with my other gas powered chainsaw and lawn machines, and electrical powered chainsaw, I am totally lost confidence to Sears' gas powered and electrical powered tools. My next gas and electrical powered tools definitely will not be Sear's brand.
I bought this saw to cut some firewood that was delivered too long. It is in my cellar so I needed it to be electric. Bad choice...nothing but trouble since i've had it. it leaks oil around the fill cover, the throttle trigger works after messing with it for several minutes and then works off and on. poor design poor quality. I will be returning it.
We got it because sometimes firewood we buy is just to big to fit in the wood stove. It chews through some pretty big pieces of oak and cherry without any trouble. One issue was that on the web page describing the saw it recommended a 100 ft 14 gauge extension cord. As I was being rung up I looked at the box where it said a 100 ft. 14 gauge cord was NOT recommended. I then had to return the first cord and get a 50 ft. 12 gauge cord.
Woks great. We love the automatic oiler. After sawing wood for several hours the handle is still comfortable. Saw did not get hot and we love the way the saw is made to deflect the saw dust away from blade and handle. Cuts fast and is light enough for a midsized women to use.

I have the smaller Remington which is actually pretty great for smaller jobs but this 16" is awesome. It is lightweight and has a cool feature of being able to tightened the chain on the fly. So far no problems.

Nice chainsaw and husband was excited to receive it as a gift. Should be good for what he has to use it on. Downside was not getting the oil for it so he couldnt try it out immediately.
I purchased this for a Christmas gift. I purchased Craftsman as it is a very reputable brand and I know Sears will stand behind it. I purchased it at a very reasonable price and also earned points.
