My 12-year-old electric craftsman chain saw has finally died for the final time. So I purchased this one to replace it. Bad mistake! After 30 minutes of accumulated use during the day. The following items were noted.
1. Chain falls off drive gear about once every 10 minutes of use. Seems any contamination that gets inside will derail the unit.
2. The no tools adjustment for chain tension is of no value. It loosens up during cutting from vibrations.
3. 7 out of every 10 times you try to start the unit, the chain only sits there while the motor in running full tilt.
4. While cutting branches of at least 1-inch thickness, the chain will just stop while the motor screams on.
5. The chain saw is so over engineered for safety that it is dangerous. The chain break is useless.
I had neighbors come over and try out my new saw. Everyone was disappointed. All reported that the unit was a piece of junk.
We tried every combination of chain slack and chain tension to try and correct the problems encountered.
Nothing seems to work at all.
I have used chain saws, manual saws, power and non-power tools for over 50 years. This is by far the worst device I have found to date.

I LIKE THE CONVENIENCE OF AN ELECTRIC CHAIN SAW AROUND THE HOUSE. I APPRECIATE THE EXTRA CHAIN THAT CAME WITH THE SAW. THE PRICE WAS GOOD ALSO.HOWEVER I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE GRAPHIC ON THE FRONT HANDLE ABOUT THE BRAKE.WHEN I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY COULD'T HELP.
This chainsaw comes in handy for all kinds of yardwork. I especially like to use it to trim trees as well as take out any unnecessary bushes or weeds. I highly recommend adding it to your collection of gardening tools.
loved the price and features of this chainsaw, but initially we were on #2 before a knowledgable salesperson showed us what we were doing wrong! no where in the directions did it say that u have to click the hand guard toward your hand to start the saw as well as push the safety switch in!!! now we are all the wiser and don't have to go on to #3...
I read all of the reviews before I bought this chainsaw. Does the chain oiler weep after the saw sits, yup. Does the trigger mechanism take some getting used to, about 5 seconds. Had to cut down six small trees about 10-12 inches across at the base and this saw went through them like butter, then cut them into little logs with ease. Oiler worked great, no tools chain adjuster works great. I've had this saw for a couple of weeks now and would recommend it to any homeowner who needs to do minor tasks requiring a chainsaw and doesn't want to worry about whether or not your gas chainsaw will start Comes with 2 chains but no oil, well worth the money.

I ordered this for my husband for his birthday, so I personally haven't used it. But he likes it, and said for the yard we have it is all he needs; and more than a smaller, cheaper one would have been. I guess this one is more powerful and bigger. But overall, he said it was worth the money.
Bought this with no research while in the middle of a cleanup job. It didn't work right immediately out of the box. Couldn't keep power to the motor no matter how hard I pressed on the trigger. Rather than try to exchange it (there was only one where I bought) I disassembled for inspection. The 'trigger' primarily disengages the chain brake and only secondarily engages the momentary motor switch. Because of this design the motor switch didn't reach full travel and didn't make full contact and lost contact with any vibration. I proved this by bypassing the switch to finish the days work (not recommended). The switch button needs a lot of travel before it makes contact and the trigger doesn't provide that. Bad design. Just another example of poor quality tools with the Craftsman name on it. My last bad experience was with an electric power washer. I will no longer make the assumption that the word Craftsman equals quality. It's just more Chinese **** like everybody else sells.
I have used this saw to cut some serious green logs. Not branches but tree trunk size stuff. No problem. I have not experienced any problems with the chain adjustment mechanism. I was pleased to see it came with an extra chain. My biggest quibble is that the trigger can be a little hard to engage sometimes. As though the thumb safety interlock doesn't always engage properly. Also it has a translucent window for the bar oil reservoir but it can be hard to see the oil level sometimes. For the price I think it is an excellent saw.

Made a tough job a whole lot easier. I had dropped a tree using a 21" bow saw, but it got too tiring to cut up the trunk by hand so I bought this chain saw. I've used a chainsaw here and there, but I'm no pro. In fact, I've heard many horror stories about accidents with chain saws. So I was a little intimidated at first, but after a few minutes, I grew more confident and I now am sort of looking forward to the next tree I need to drop later this year.
