Keep those black allen screws tight!
This trimmer did a great job when it was holding together. Never had engine problems, but the black allen screws on the bottom that hold the blades and the bottom cover vibrated loose and fell out during use. They are self tapping screws anchored in plastic, so don't over tighten them or you will strip them out, but make sure before you use it each time that the screws are all there and not loose. I'm trying to find replacement screws now so I can get back to work.

Will not start or Run
Had problems with this from the first time start. Took ~ 30 mins to start then would stop after ~ 2 mins. After 3-4 uses it wouldn't start at all. Terrible product. Will be returning to store.

This trimmer is Garbage

This trimmer's exhaust blows in your face when using it. I read this in another review before I purchased and thought I could tolerate - I have... The worst part is that the torx screws holding the fuel tank loosened. I lost some and tried to re-tighten the remaining ones. After a few minutes of operation they would drop out. I took the trimmer to sears repair to have it fixed. After paying $120, the fuel tank is still attached. The problem now is that the screws holding the motor to the frame are now loosening and I can't keep them tight. I lost one and only have one of two remaining - it loosens often. I tried to insert and tighten the other screw, but it won't tighten. I'm fed up and am looking for another trimmer after one year.

2 years no problems

Just pulled it back out of the storage shed after a year of storage. Filled up the tank and away we went. Made quick work of my twenty or so bushes. No problems and just like last year did not hiccup at all. Now it is on its way to my mother in laws for her annual use of my yard equipment.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The craftsman Gas hedge trimmer is the best on the market.

The Craftsman 22inch Hedge Trimmer is perfect for every trimming job.  Whether it is shrubbery of hedge like thickness or heavier dimension twigs up to a quarter inch, you will find that the Craftsman severs through the material with ease and with no "stop and start" jerking or catching.  Light weight and comfortable to handle, it takes little strength to maintain an accurate and level cut.  Easy to start, I have found almost instantaneous starting ability, never pulling the cord more than twice in any choke position. The blades remain fairly sharp even with heavy cutting and last longer than expected. For small jobs or larger size hedges the 22 inch blades fit almost every job and even better yet it shortens the time spent regardless of the size of the job.  I've owned this product before and experienced long lasting service with the only drawback, non removeable blades for sharpening.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Chewed thru every bush I faced it with!

Picture perfect set up though too many devices and poor memory may have contributed to the hard initial starting.  Once fired up the throttle response was adaquet and didn't need to run at full throttle as I became used to the hedge trimmer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Does NOT cut 1/8" shrub limbs! Screws contantly fall outYUCK!

Sorry, no longer a Craftsman devotee... the trimmer is gas powered, so usually that alone would mean it had strength and will do the job!  NOT! I bought last year and used for the first time this year.  The screws work loose fast and fall out, so you have to replace.  Then, the blades can't work because the screws are gone.  I have some little, thin 1/8" shrub limbs -escallonias, dappled willows, and birdsnest... I have never worked so hard in my life... this was my first trimmer.  We have chain saws but I thought this big $170.00 tool was the truck for me... being a gal and I could handle it. Well, I can, but the tool does not perform... DISAPPOINTED.  I read some other reviews that confirmed mine - loose screws will not stay in and also will not cut.  SAD, DISAPPOINTED, AND WANT MY MONEY BACK.  I will follow up with Sears to see if they will stand behind their products like they used to.    Just fyi - i own a CRAFTSMAN dual blade, double bagger lawn mower - for a large 2 acre lawn... it performs and I want my little tool to perform, too ;((.  Molly   P. S.  We take care of our tools, maintenance them, but never had the chance on this baby!

Designer probably never actually used this trimmer.

I just purchased a 22" Craftsman Hedge Trimmer and in the two hours that I used it, it shut down at least 40 times.  It shut down due to the choke lever being moved to full or half choke by rubbing against my arm, chest or stomach.  I finally put a rubber band on it to prevent it from moving.  This sucks in a brand new unit that has a design flaw.  It is a design flaw that is easily corrected and not very expensive to do so.  It needs the choke lever to be a lot smaller so that it doesn't keep coming in contact with things that cause it to move and chjoke down the unit.  I probably started the unit what should have been a whole year of times in two hours.  This is not good for the life of a unit especially if it keeps happening every time yo use it.  It will cut small 1/2" limbs ok but doesn't have the power I expected.  I have used other brands in the past and know what to expect.

Nice Trimmer

I used this trimmer a few times so far and it works great. It starts up with a few pulls. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is, like the other reviews that you read is the choke lever design is a joke, it will not take much to break, they should have done a better job on the design of it. Overall I will recommend this product to friends.

cheap choke lever

I've had the trimmer for 17 months and it cuts very well. My only complaint is that it has a cheap plastic choke lever. On my last use I found that it had broken off, probably from rubbing against my front. If it wasn't so large or was made of metal it probavly wouldn't have happened. A design flaw that will cost me up to $85 to repair.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
