The motor uses electronics to detect position and transfer electrical current into the stator, which is why brushes are not needed.
By doing away with the brushes which produce friction and heat, brushless motors:
• Are more efficient
• Run cooler
• Are often lighter and more compact than brushed motors
• Require electronics making them relatively more expensive
• Can more readily allow higher speed or increased torque than a brushed motor, which can result in an improved user experience
