ABOUT THE PROGRAM
For the last 14 years, the Racing for a Miracle program has donated to local Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals around the country through the Ace Hardware Foundation. In partnership with NASCAR driver Erik Jones, the Racing for a Miracle program aims to drive awareness for the vital work that CMN Hospitals do to help treat their patients. This year, CRAFTSMAN selected four children from CMN Hospitals to be honorary pit crew members and receive an incredible experience. CRAFTSMAN is proud to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals; join our team and consider donating today.DONATE NOW
MEET THE HONORARY PIT CREW
These kids will work with their doctor or nurse and a Joe Gibbs Racing designer to create a special-edition paint scheme for Erik Jones’ No. 20 CRAFTSMAN Toyota in the Charlotte race based on their desired superhero abilities. Plus, they’ll play a virtual race with Erik Jones himself and have their own cardboard cutout featured in Erik’s pit box on race day! Stay tuned for all excitement that will be coming prior to race day on October 11.
Sofia, Age 12
“Teleportation because you could go anywhere at any time.” -Sofia
Sofia was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 7. One month after diagnosis, she was upgraded to High Risk, so we should require even more chemotherapy and more intense treatments than previously thought to giver her a better chance at beating this disease.
Sofia spent most of 2016 at Levine Children’s Hospital and even missed one full year of school. Throughout this difficult time, Sofia remained incredibly courageous and resilient. She ended her treatment in 2018 and is thriving today. She’s honored to be part of the Joe Gibbs Racing honorary team.
Kyler, Age 12
Kyler is a delightful 11-year-old young man from Taylorsville, NC. In October of 2015, Kyler underwent a heart transplant and was hospitalized in November for a rejection episode. Since that time, Kyler has been doing great. Kyler loves all sports – when attended the transplant clinic, he challenged his doctors to a game of “trash-ket-ball,” his own version of basketball where you roll up paper towels into balls and try various ways to sink baskets into the trash can. Kyler enjoys watching NASCAR with his dad and grandfather.
Zackery & Christian, Age 14 and 12
“Zackery’s super power is teleportation. My super power is being invincible…. I could take on pretty much anything.” – Christian
These brothers eat, sleep and breathe NASCAR. They have a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Zackery is 13 and has high functioning autism. Christian is 12 years old. Both boys have had numerous hospitalizations at Levine Children’s Hospital and have been going to Levine’s since they were born.
Both boys have many therapies and take medicines that unfortunately take away from everyday activities.
The boys would like to thank Erik Jones and the Joe Gibbs Racing team for including them in this exciting event.
