This 1-Horsepower 14-inch Band Saw Has Some Serious Kick

With its 1 HP dual 120/240 voltage motor and nearly 100-inch blade length, this Craftsman 14-inch band saw can tackle any serious cutting job. Built on a large, sturdy cast-iron base, this machine offers stability and flexibility with its 45-degree tilting table. For even more control, the band saw offers two blade speeds ‒ one for cutting wood and one for other non-ferrous materials ‒ turning it into a multi-purpose tool.

Heavy-duty jobs are no task at all for the 14-inch band saw, owing to its versatility. Most importantly, it has the extra details that make a band saw user-friendly, like two dust collection ports in two different sizes, a 7-foot power cord, upper and lower guards and straightforward owner assembly. As an added bonus, the saw has an 8-inch resaw capacity and ball bearing guides to help reduce friction and lengthen blade life. Backed by a Craftsman One Year Limited Warranty, you can feel confident about your purchase.

  • Use the Craftsman 14-Inch Band Saw for your woodworking needs and then some
  • To cut different materials, the device offers 2 blade speeds: 1620 and 3340
  • Two dust collection ports ‒ one at the back and one at the front ‒ are 2-1/2 in. and 4 in. deep, respectively
  • This saw has a standard 3/4” x 3/8” miter slot

Some eXtra Info
I have a prior version of this saw. I can't tell what they have changed in addition to the stand (if anything) but if its like the prior model, ITS EXCELLENT. I wanted to comment on the blade length (99 3/4 in.) Anyone who whos anything about band-saws and band-saw blades knows that you usually have your blades made for you at whatever length you specify. This is not some crazy custom expense; its just like buying donuts. YOU pick what YOU want and they put them in a box. YES, many locations will sell pre-made and pre-packaged blades for this saw but know cares. The best blades and best prices WILL be found at suppliers that cut the band stock to order and weld it for you. A top quality Lenox blade for this saw will run about $12. If you want the ability to buy low-quality blades off the shelf at your local big-box hardware, you probably won't find them for this saw. "Custom" blades are the way to go. Incidentally, the original blade that came with my saw 5 years ago was pretty good overall. It did however have a higher tooth pitch than I needed for most of my sawing. For most of you folks, I would recommend getting a 1/4" x 6 tpi blade for "general" use, a 1/2" x 3 tpi for resawing, and maybe a 3/16" x 8 to10 tpi blade if you want to do scroll work in plywood.

Belt tensioner design flaw
I was excited about this saw due to the features of having a two speed for a great price. The saw came well packed and great shape. Last step of the assembly was about how to change speeds by adjusting the belt. It comes default set at the high speed. The big problem here is the belt tensioner pully was WAY to far in. When the belt was put on the outer guides, the tensioner pulley was so far in it would not even grab the belt. Looked at several displays to see if mine was just manufactored wrong. All tensioners were too far back but one display saw did manage to just be out enough to grab the belt...but barely. There is no adjustments for this. It all depends on the positioning of the mechanism when it is welded at the factory. So before you start assembling this saw...CHECK the belt tensioner position for when the outer low speed belt guides are used. If the belt is barely on the tension pulley edge...do not waste any more of your time. Just send it back.

Nice saw for the money

Saw assembled without a hitch and took just a few minutes to tune. Fit and finish are nice, especially for a $359 saw, and Rikon has all the accessories this saw needs. The saw runs quiet and the ball bearing guides work well. I had to fuss a bit to get the guides just right, but it didn't take any more effort than guide blocks would. Well worth the money.

Works great and better than expected.

As a woodworking hobbyist I can't believe I waited this long to get one of these. I have a 9" bandsaw which was pretty much an expensive doorstop. This is a lifesaver and a timesaver in my shop. It is so versatile, especially for what I am doing. One suggestion, the blade that comes with the saw seems adequate for most work but I tend to do more scroll type cuts, so I would recommend a 3/16" or 1/8" blade. Also, it does not come with a fence or miter gauge. I had to order the fence online and I found out it uses a Rikon fence. It seems they have the same fence listed for a Craftsman and a Rikon. Order the Rikon Model #13-900, it is about $8 to $9 less and is the same item.

Excellent product - High build quality

Very good band saw - Extremely well built. Much smoother and quieter than my old Rockwell. I was surprised at how well every thing fit together during assembly. I had to adjust the blade tracking a little and also adjusted the upper and lower guide bearings. I added a Rikon rip fence and miter gauge and they matched up to this saw exactly. Have done some scroll cutting on 2" stock and on thin stock. Cuts accurately and is easy to follow the line. I re-sawed a couple of 4" thick pieces to 1/4 " wide and it had no problem going through thicker stock. - Plenty of power. A bargain at $400. Compares well with more expensive machines. --- That's all - Now I need to go cut something.

Meets my needs

After reading all the pros and cons about this saw (mostly pros), I finally decided on this one. The $359 price no doubt the clincher on my budget. Hopefully I am the lucky one. The guy who could never find one that you can change the speeds on needs to come see mine. My belt doesn't barely rest on the pulley, it is firmly riding on it perfectly. Haven't purchased the $ 59 fence Sears offers in the Rikon name, but will soon and will know more of what this saw can handle So far so good on everything and I would highly recommend.

Hands down the best value for price range

I upgraded from a bench top bandsaw and I love it. I've been cutting up 6" thick pieces of wood for use on my lathe and this thing has more than enough power for the job. This machine runs amazingly quiet to the point of not needing ear protection at all. The bandsaw fits a rikon fence perfectly, because the thing is a rikon bandsaw with different paint on it and a 50-100 bucks less than the rikon. Because they are the same saw I know I will be able to find replacement parts even if sears stops carrying this saw. Not that I will be needing replacement parts soon as 40$ gets you a two year, in home repair insurance for anything that may happen to the saw, heck once a year you can call them up and they will come grease all the parts for you. Only other negative think ive heard about about this saw is that the placement of the belt makes speed changing difficult which is nonsense. It barely registers as an inconvenience and you will never really change the speed unless you switch from metal to wood cutting all the time. There are 4 kinds of bandsaws. bench top model bandsaws in the 100-190$ Range, then there are floor models 350-450$ then there's the jet and grizzley models 600-900$ and then there are all the models over a grand. In its price range this saw is hands down the best in power and resaw capacity and reliability. Nothing about this saw feels cheap and that's what you're looking for.

Overall
Best bang for the buck in a 14" bandsaw. Period.

I've owned this saw for a little over a year now. It's a quality machine that puts up with me and my demands quite well. PROS: Great resaw height without a riser block. 8" from the factory. If I had to resaw anything bigger than that, I would want more horsepower and table space anyway. Good upper and lower guide system. The upper and lower guides are 3 bearing instead of blocks. Unusual at this price. Dust collection is fantastic. When used with a 4" dust collector, dust collection in the lower cabinet is nearly 100%. Very little dust remains after cutting. Couple that with the 2.5" connection and dust collection over the table is more acceptable than I would expect. Assembly is really simple. You can change the blade without removing the table. CONS: There was a lot of tweaking required out of the box. I had to adjust my table trunion as the table was too far to the left and could not be set square to the blade. The procedure is not in the manual but fairly straight forward if you are familiar with how trunions work. I also had to true the lower wheel. the blade was tracking differently on the lower wheel than the top. I didn't notice this until my drive belt kept falling off. The procedure was really easy, however not in the manual. I found the instructions for this saws green clone and it worked great. Tensioning can be problematic. This saw has a tough time tensioning blades on the high end of the limit. (5/8" to 3/4") I personally would not recommend using a 3/4" wide blade on this saw as there isn't much support on the tires either. The blade guard is not true to the geometry of the blade. I don't think this can be adjusted. Significant height changes require resetting the upper guide bearings. This isn't a huge deal especially at this price point, but you'd think a rack and pinion system would be more accurate. Minimum blade width is 1/4" I'd like to be able to use a 3/16 or 1/8" blade sometimes for more intricate cuts as I find the bandsaw is much quicker than my scroll saw, but this is not a dealbreaker since I primarily use this for cutting larger curves and resawing. Overall this is a terrific saw. There are some flaws but most of them can be adjusted out. Also a lot of people complain there is no fence for this saw. Their is. This saw's green brother's fence bolts right up to the factory drilled holes and you can even buy it from Sears. Search sears.com for Item # 00921073000P Model # 13-900.

Very good saw for the cost

The only concern is it has no fence, no concern I ordered a rival online, bolted on in a matter of minutes. I took 4x4 cedar for table legs and in a short time made almost perfect legs for my current table project. The saw flew through the 4x4. I would recommend the saw to the above average DIY woodworker

14 inch bandsaw

Spend couple of week searching and review different bandsaws and I finely decided on the craftsman 14 inch. I ordered for free store pickup and was very well pleased with the service. The saw was easily assembled and only took several minutes to fine tune it for precision cutting. This saw is a great added convenence to fine wood working and making simple cuts for quick projects.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
