Craftsman  8' Stainless Steel Work Surface

Looks Amazing !. thought it was all stainless by the description, but didnt make sense, its wood underneeth. I have a buble in the middle of mine, which I hope settles in the summer (im not taking the whole thing apart). I will scratch so be careful. I am picky but I need to remember its a garage and I bought it to use it. You can only see the surface scratches up close. Will probably polish out.

The work bench frame kit installation instructions do not incorporate what needs to change when also installing the shelf kit and back peg board kit. The frame kit instructs the places of the holes to mount the bench top to the frame are not compatible when you install the back peg board kit. It would be better to incorporate these optional instructions. Sears sells these optional kits as add-ons, but the instructions are deficient. It causes rework to relocate the bench top mounting holes and that bench top is heavy! Once it was finished, it turned out to be a great bench!

It will take two people to lift (very difficult if not) and will require you to attach top to frame by marking holes and drilling.  

If you purchase a backwall do not place top on until back wall is assembled.

SS top will not fit properly with back wall.  

Product is above average. 

Instruction need to get to the main point right away. If you buy the complete set up you must put certain peices togeather first

sears tools used to be made in America? Remember when you'd be watching this old house with bob villa and he'd be selling craftsmen tools made in America? Those days are gone. The stainless tops I ordered came in very nice shape, no dents or scratches, made in Mexico though. They weigh about 140lbs (I'm not kidding) each cause they have a slab of mdf glued to their undersides. This top is alright for the weekend warrior doityourselfer but I wouldn't recommend it for any professional auto shops. The stainless skin is very thin and would probably dent easily from hammer blows. Still, it looks great mounted on the black frame.

Easy to assemble and definitely a fantastic working surface for my garage!

I deliberated on whether to buy the stainless steel top or the other ones offered by Sears. After reading most of the reviews, I went with the stainless one and I?m glad I did. Very nice product. Like some of the other reviews, it is very heavy and you will need two people to lift it up. I purchased the 8? top along with the matching frame and the three and five drawer cabinets. Looks great together. Read all of the instructions before starting as you have to eliminate some parts when you are putting the frame together if you are adding the cabinets to your workbench. Takes a little bit of time, but definitely well worth it. None of products were damaged and it all came together fairly easily. Take your time to measure and square everything before tightening. Really looks sharp and well built.

Been eyeballing one of these for a couple of years to replace a butcher block top on a Whalen/****** 8' workbench. When Sears put it on sale for $199 I finally dominoed for one. These things are beautiful and heavy. I don't know where they got 40 lbs. for the weight rating but you'd better have a friend there to help you. It's very heavy. Unit came in without a scratch on it and it was a snap to fasten it to the existing steel workbench frame.

Although this may sound obvious, it's worth noting that stainless will scratch very easily so it's going to gain some 'character' in short order. It also shows fingerprints easily but nothing a quick shot of Zep glass cleaner can't fix, not to mention the gazillion stainless cleaning products on the market.

Finally, if you have the space, budget and inclination to do it, a couple of 2'x4' aluminum pegboards mounted above the back of the workbench turn the whole setup into a real eyepopper. I have no regrets about coughing up the dough for this stainless top.

This product is made of quality stainless steel. And if you don't believe it wait until you try and pick it up. The price was not too bad either when you consider the quality and durabilty of the product.
